With data prices climbing across Nigeria, every naira counts. Whether you are a student attending online classes, a professional working remotely, or someone who simply wants to stay connected, finding the cheapest 1GB data plan is one of the smartest money‑saving moves you can make.

But here is the challenge: prices vary wildly depending on the network, the plan type (daily, weekly, monthly), and even your tariff plan. What looks like a good deal at first glance may actually be one of the most expensive options when you calculate the cost per megabyte.

In this guide, we break down every 1GB data option across MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9mobile — official prices, hidden promo codes, and the absolute cheapest ways to get 1GB of data in Nigeria in 2026.

Quick Answer: What is the Cheapest 1GB Data in Nigeria?

The absolute cheapest 1GB data in Nigeria can be as low as ₦150 – ₦200 through:

• MTN: 1GB for ₦200 via *121*1# or *312*88# (targeted/promo offers)[reference:0]
• 9mobile: 1GB night plan for ₦200 via *229*3*11#[reference:1]

However, the cheapest 1GB data for everyday use (with longer validity) is often the Glo CG 1GB (30 days) for ₦440 via VTU platforms like Fujest — giving you a full month of data at a price lower than most weekly plans[reference:4].

1GB Data Comparison – Network by Network

Let us dive into each network's 1GB offerings, from the cheapest daily deals to the most affordable monthly bundles.

MTN 1GB Data Plans

MTN is Nigeria's largest network with the widest coverage. Its 1GB plans range from as low as ₦200 (promo) to ₦700+ for standard bundles.

MTN Verdict: If you are eligible for the ₦200 promo, MTN is one of the cheapest options. Otherwise, the ₦500 daily plan is decent for short-term use, but the ₦1,000 monthly plan is expensive compared to competitors.

Glo 1GB Data Plans

Glo is historically the budget‑friendly network, and its 1GB plans are among the cheapest in Nigeria — especially when bought via VTU platforms.

Glo Verdict: Glo offers the cheapest 1GB data overall — especially the 30‑day CG plan at ₦440. For short-term needs, the 3‑day and 7‑day plans are unbeatable.

Airtel 1GB Data Plans

Airtel is known for its Binge plans and promotional offers. Its 1GB plans are competitively priced for short-term users.

Airtel Verdict: Airtel's ₦500 short‑term plan is decent, but the ₦800 weekly plan is more expensive than Glo's 7‑day plan. The ₦200 winback offer is excellent if you are eligible.

9mobile (T2mobile) 1GB Data Plans

9mobile offers some of the most affordable night and monthly plans, with a focus on less congested urban networks.

9mobile Verdict: The ₦200 night plan is one of the cheapest 1GB options in Nigeria — but only usable between midnight and 5am. For daytime use, the ₦1,000 monthly plan is more expensive than Glo's ₦440 30‑day plan.

How to Get Even Cheaper 1GB Data – Smart Strategies

Beyond picking the right network, here are additional ways to save:

1. Use VTU Platforms Like Fujest

VTU platforms buy data in bulk at wholesale prices and pass the savings to you. For example, Glo's 1GB CG plan costs ₦440 for 30 days on Fujest — significantly cheaper than the official retail price[reference:25].

2. Check Targeted Promo Offers

Both MTN and Airtel run personalised promo offers through their USSD menus:

• MTN: Dial *121# and select "Top Deals" or "Data4ME" for exclusive discounted bundles[reference:26]
• Airtel: Check for "Winback" offers if you have not recharged in a while — sometimes as low as ₦200 for 1GB[reference:27]

3. Combine Night and Day Plans

If you do most of your heavy downloading at night, combine a cheap night plan (₦200 for 1GB on 9mobile or MTN) with a smaller daytime plan for browsing.

4. Buy Larger Bundles for Better Per‑GB Rates

While this guide focuses on 1GB, buying larger bundles often gives you a cheaper cost per gigabyte. For example, Glo's 3GB for ₦1,000 works out to ₦333/GB[reference:28] — cheaper than some 1GB plans.

5. Use Data‑Saving Features

Stretch your 1GB further by:

• Enabling Data Saver mode on Chrome, YouTube, and other apps
• Limiting background data for apps that do not need constant syncing
• Downloading content over Wi‑Fi for offline use
